 Dan’s Bio

Dan Brown was born to the lower middle class family of James Eldridge and Barbara Joyce Brown on December 5,1949, in a small town in NE Louisiana called Natchitoches. He was the middle child of three, having an older brother, David (who was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1971 at age 25) and a sister Carol, who is currently an Algebra teacher in Shreveport, LA.  Dan was shy as a youth, and had a slight stuttering problem. He accepted Jesus as his Savior at age 12 and was Baptized, and although it was real at that time, he would go on a long and difficult journey before becoming truly committed to Christ, in 1999.

He began playing guitar in 1962 at age 12 but did not truly dive deep into it until he was diagnosed in 1963,  with a kidney ailment called “Chronic Nephritis. He  then  was hospitalized for 45 days, and was restricted to his bed or a chair for over a year.  As a gift,  his father’s younger brother purchased  a better (a Kay) acoustic guitar, for Dan than his first $5 used “Silvertone” which Dan had purchased before his illness. Dan turned to the guitar to wile away the boring hours of bed and chair confinement.  By the time he returned to school, the Beatles would have invaded America, and he was  heavily influenced by them and other popular groups of the late ‘60s.

His first public performances were at church parties and local “Folk Singings” and he learned enough chords to fake it pretty well. Dan found that he liked the attention he received playing guitar and singing. He began playing in local “Garage Bands” in late 1964,  playing rhythm electric guitar, and seemed to be the only guy with the nerve to sing in public of all his band mates.  His Garage Band career continued into his college days at NSU in Natchitoches, where he formed his most successful group, a 13 piece “Rhythm and Blues Show Band” called “Soul ‘69  Revue.” Around this time he met his future wife Sheila (although because he was so busy and thought he was so popular) but, he let her slip through his fingers and she wed someone else.

Dan would eventually wed Sheila after she and her young daughter were essentially abandoned by her first husband. They wed in April ‘74 and have been married for 28+ years. In addition to raising their daughter Mira, in ‘75 their son Christopher was born. Sheila has been the love of Dan’s life and was instrumental in beginning his long journey back into the arms of his Savior.

Dan began playing “Christian Acoustic Guitar Music” in 1982, and was a member of  praise teams and even the Praise Leader at a small church, all while hiding secret parts of his past lifestyle, which he refused to give up. But God had His hands on Dan's life and through Sheila’s and other’s prayers and  the influence of the music performed by the late Keith Green and other pioneers of “ Modern Christian” music, Dan finally committed his life fully to Christ, in 1999. (Praise His Grace and His Mercy!)

Dan and Sheila Brown now reside in a mobile home surrounded by cattle and horses, on a gravel road in the community of Elm Grove, LA.  Dan’s Father resides next door to Dan and Sheila. Dan’s Mother is in the final stages of Alzheimer's, and is in a Nursing Home. Dan’s Dad, when he is not caring for his beloved in the Nursing Home(12+hours a day),  raises vegetables, and has some chickens. Dan and Sheila have 3 grandchildren. Mira’s two boys, Montana and Montgomery and their son Christopher has a 2 year old daughter, Alexis.

Dan and Sheila faithfully attend “Fillmore Baptist Church” in Princeton, LA, and Dan sings and plays his old Guild guitar there, quite frequently. Dan and Sheila also have a  Singing and a Bible Devotional every Saturday morning, at River View Care Center in Bossier City, LA, where Dan’s Mother resides. They both love Jesus and believe that the purpose of music in their lives is Praise, Worship, and the spreading of the Gospel!

Blessings, Dan Brown
